Cello

Session #1 - From 20 Jul To 26 Jul

Teacher bio:

Born into a family of musicians, Yi-Bing Chu began studying the cello at the age of eight with his father, a professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. He appeared in concert from an early age and made his first recording at only ten years old. At that time, the Cultural Revolution had not yet ended and classical music was still officially forbidden.
In 1984, Yi-Bing Chu entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where he studied with the renowned French cellist Maurice Gendron and obtained his First Prize in 1987. Winner of the Geneva International Music Competition in 1986, he became a soloist with the Basel Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland in 1989, a position he held until 2004.
From 2004 to 2018, Yi-Bing Chu was professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where he worked passionately to promote and develop chamber music throughout China. He founded the Yi-Bing Chu Cello Ensemble, made up of his students, and has given hundreds of concerts across the country for more than fifteen years.
He has performed for distinguished personalities such as the Presidents of China, France and the United States, and is also committed to bringing classical music to the widest possible audience by performing in universities, hospitals, factories and prisons for millions of Chinese people who have limited access to classical music. Founder and artistic director of the SuperCello Festival, Yi-Bing Chu has produced three recordings with his cello ensemble.
