Description
Geneviève Laurenceau is regarded as one of the most brilliant representatives of French violinists. Her multiple activities as a soloist, chamber musician, pedagogue, and festival director make her an accomplished musician who lives her passion in all its forms.
She started playing the violin at the age of three, and this instrument, with its singing voice close to the human voice, became the embodiment of her dreams and never left her side. Her mentors Wolfgang Marschner, Zakhar Bron, and later Jean-Jacques Kantorow shaped an artist with multiple facets, at the intersection of three major European violin schools.
After several international successes and winning first prize at the Novosibirsk International Competition, Geneviève Laurenceau performs as a soloist with major French and international orchestras, under the baton of conductors such as Michel Plasson, Walter Weller, Tugan Sokhiev, François Xavier Roth, Antony Hermus, or Christian Arming.
Fond of the stage, sharing, and deeply believing in the essential values of art, culture, and music, Geneviève Laurenceau is passionate about encounters. This is evidenced by her commitment to contemporary repertoire, the creation of the string quintet “Smoking Josephine,” and the “Barockissimo” trio.
Her musical eclecticism also led her to hold the position of concertmaster of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse for ten years.
With a discography that highlights French repertoire, Geneviève Laurenceau released an album dedicated to Saint-Saëns in the fall of 2021, which was praised by critics.
In charge of the violin class at the Philippe Jaroussky Academy at La Seine Musicale (Boulogne-Billancourt) until 2022, she is currently a professor at the Regional Conservatory of Versailles Grand Parc, as well as at the Higher Education Institute of Music and Dance in Aix-en-Provence (IESM).
Geneviève is the artistic director of the Obernai Music Festival, founded under her leadership in 2009.
She plays a violin by Goffredo Cappa dating back to 1700.
