UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MARIE-JOSEPHE JUDE

Masterclass of Excellence

The Académie Internationale d’Été de Nice, also known as AIEN or Académie d’Été de Nice, is an international gathering of musicians, professors, and students, held every summer for three weeks in Nice – Côte d’Azur.

Each year, the Academy offers courses (harmonization, composition, voice, dance, and instruments) as well as conferences. As part of the Nice Classic Festival, concerts are organized in prestigious venues, notably in the Cloister of the Monastery of Cimiez and the Matisse Gardens.

Founded in 1957 by the bassoonist Fernand Oubradous, the Academy is now a non-profit organization under French law (association loi 1901). It operates within the facilities of the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Nice and awards scholarships, diplomas, and the Jacques Taddei Prize.

More than fifty nationalities are represented among its faculty and students.

Since its creation, the Académie d’Été de Nice has welcomed renowned professors who remain benchmarks in 20th-century international music education. They came from institutions such as the Paris Conservatory, including pianist Pierre Sancan, flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal, trumpeter Maurice André, harpist Lily Laskine, violinist Christian Ferras, cellist Paul Tortelier, and guitarist Alexandre Lagoya. Others came from the Moscow Conservatory (violinist Leonid Kogan), the Vienna Academy (conductor Hans Swarowski), the Curtis Institute of Philadelphia (violinist Aaron Rosand), the University of Mexico (violinist Henryk Szeryng), and the Juilliard School of New York (Lorraine Nubar). The Academy has also been enriched by the contributions of professors from the Royal College of London, the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and legendary artists such as Jessye Norman, Dalton Baldwin, and many others.
