Teacher bio:

Invited to major festivals (Salzburg, Berlin, Bath, Aldeburgh, La Roque d’Anthéron…), Florent Boffard has performed, among others, under the direction of Pierre Boulez, Simon Rattle, Leon Fleisher and Péter Eötvös with the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.

Soloist of the Ensemble Intercontemporain from 1988 to 1999, he worked closely with the leading composers of our time and premiered works by Boulez, Donatoni, Ligeti and others. In 2019, Florent Boffard was invited to the MusikFest Berlin and to the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg as part of the “Portrait” devoted to composer George Benjamin.

In 2010, he presented live on Arte Chopin, une écoute aujourd’hui at La Folle Journée in Nantes. Concerned with helping audiences better understand contemporary repertoire, he has also led numerous workshops and concert presentations, notably at the La Roque d’Anthéron Festival. Florent Boffard also wrote and directed the film Schœnberg, le malentendu, accompanying his recording of Schoenberg’s piano works released by Mirare in 2013, awarded “5 Diapasons” and Gramophone’s “Editor’s Choice”. Among his recordings is also the album Racines, devoted to Bartók (Mirare), unanimously praised by the press and again awarded a Gramophone “Editor’s Choice”. He has also recorded with Pierre-Laurent Aimard (DG) and Isabelle Faust (Harmonia Mundi), and recently premiered and recorded Antiphonie by Pierre Boulez on an album combining Beethoven, Berg and Boulez (Mirare).

In 2001, the Forberg-Schneider Foundation (Munich) awarded Florent Boffard the Belmont Prize for his commitment to contemporary music. He has taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon and at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart. Since 2016, he has been Professor of Piano at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and at the IESM in Aix-en-Provence.
