Teacher bio:

After brilliant studies at the Paris Conservatory of Music (CNSM), in the class of Bulgarian pianist Ventsislav Yankoff (First Prize in piano with unanimous vote), François Chaplin won the Mozart and Robert Casadesus Prizes at the Cleveland International Competition. These distinctions marked the starting point of an active and brilliant international career. He performs as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Lille National Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Paris Orchestral Ensemble, Lorraine National Orchestra, Colonne Orchestra, etc. He regularly participates in prestigious festivals such as La Roque d'Anthéron, Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges Festival, Nohant International Encounters (Chopin), Cervantino International Festival in Mexico, Yokohama International Festival in Japan, Reims Musical Wanderings, Piano in Valois, and the Chopin Festival at Paris Bagatelle. François Chaplin is also a guest at Wigmore Hall in London, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, Washington Art Gallery (USA), Coliseo Theatre and CCK in Buenos Aires, etc. His recording of the complete piano works of Debussy was unanimously praised by critics in France (Diapason d'Or, ffff Télérama) and abroad (BBC Magazine Award/London), and it was with the complete Chopin Nocturnes in March 2010 (double CD Zig-Zag Territoires/Harmonia Mundi), awarded a ffff by Télérama and labeled 'Chopin 2010 in France', that François Chaplin celebrated the bicentenary of the Polish composer's birth. In 2-piano performances, he has produced several CDs including the complete works of Francis Poulenc with Alexandre Tharaud in 1996 (Naxos, BBC magazine Award), 4-hand and 2-piano works by Debussy (Decca/Universal) with pianist Philippe Cassard in 2012, on the occasion of the composer's 150th birthday, and in November 2019 an 'Années Folles' album with Argentine pianist Marcela Roggeri (Klarthe). In March 2015, the French pianist recorded the complete Schubert Impromptus for Aparte (crowned with a ffff from Télérama, 4 stars in Classica and also acclaimed in Germany). A Mozart disc was released in October 2017 for the Aparte label (23rd and 24th concertos) with the Besançon Franche-Comté orchestra, conducted by Jean-François Verdier. His Brahms CD (Aparté) was released in June 2019 with the last opuses 117, 118, 119, as well as the 2 Rhapsodies opus 79, awarded by Gramophone (London) and Diapason (5 diapasons) magazines. In January 2022, the complete 19 Chopin Waltzes will be published (Aparte label). François Chaplin teaches Bachelor and Master classes at the CRR of Versailles and gives masterclasses abroad, notably at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, University of Montreal, in Norway, Japan (Tokyo and Osaka), and Buenos Aires.
