Geneviève Laurenceau is considered one of the most brilliant representatives of the French violin tradition. Her multiple activities as a soloist, chamber musician, teacher and festival director make her a complete musician who lives her passion in all its forms.
She began studying the violin at the age of three, and this instrument, whose singing voice is close to the human tessitura, soon became the form and voice of her dreams and has never left her since. Her teachers Wolfgang Marschner, Zakhar Bron and Jean-Jacques Kantorow shaped an artist with many facets, at the crossroads of three major European violin schools.
After several international successes and a first prize at the Novosibirsk International Competition, Geneviève Laurenceau has performed in France and abroad as a soloist with major French and international orchestras, under the direction of conductors such as Michel Plasson, Walter Weller, Tugan Sokhiev, François-Xavier Roth, Antony Hermus and Christian Arming.
Loving the stage and sharing, and deeply believing in the essential values of art, culture and music, Geneviève Laurenceau is passionate about encounters. This is reflected in her commitment to contemporary repertoire, the creation of the string quintet “Smoking Josephine”, and the trio “Barockissimo”.
Her musical eclecticism also led her to serve as concertmaster of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse for ten years.
With a discography that gives pride of place to the French repertoire, Geneviève Laurenceau released in autumn 2021 an album devoted to Saint-Saëns, widely praised by critics.
After being in charge of the violin class at the Philippe Jaroussky Academy at La Seine Musicale (Boulogne-Billancourt) until 2022, she is currently professor at the CRR de Versailles Grand Parc and at the Higher Institute of Music of Aix-en-Provence (IESM).
Geneviève is artistic director of the Obernai Music Festival, founded on her initiative in 2009.
She plays a violin made by Goffredo Cappa in 1700.
