Johan Schmidt, one of the leading figures in Belgian musical life, has acquired a remarkable reputation for both his virtuosity and sensitivity. He is a laureate of the most prestigious international competitions: Laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, for which he also won the RTBF Audience Award – First Prize at the Maria Callas International Grand Prix (Athens) – Third Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow) – First Prize at the Japan Competition (Tokyo) – Laureate of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (Fort Worth). His qualities as a soloist have led him to perform in prestigious venues such as the Gasteig in Munich, the Schauspielhaus in Berlin, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Auditorium du Châtelet in Paris, the Suntory and Casals Halls in Tokyo, the Symphony Hall in Osaka, the Rachmaninov Hall in Moscow, the Herod Atticus Theatre in Athens, the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, and the Tel Aviv Museum... Johan Schmidt is also a professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels as well as at Qingdao University (China) and since 2016, at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Tokyo.
