A solo flutist, he is currently a teacher and master's thesis supervisor at the Conservatory of Music of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen). He holds the positions of guest flutist with the Zurich Opera Orchestra (Switzerland) and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and holds the highest Soloist Diploma awarded by the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Switzerland). He is guest principal flutist of the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, Vice President of the Flute Committee of the Guangzhou Wind Instrument Association, and first prize winner of the 2nd Singapore International Flute Competition.

Yuan Long has collaborated with numerous renowned conductors and soloists, both in China and abroad, such as Long Yu, Zhang Guoyong, Lü Jia, Li Xincao, Lin Daye, Yang Yang, Huang Yi, Huai-Shi Wu, Jing Huan, Charles Dutoit, John Nelson, David Stern, Hélène Grimaud, Julian Rachlin, Leonidas Kavakos, Yuja Wang, among others. He has been invited to participate in productions with the Shenzhen and Qingdao Symphony Orchestras as guest principal flutist.
